CMR GmbH (CMR), a European private investor, reported yesterday that it has purchased Rofin-Sinar UK ("RSUK") from Coherent, Inc. RSUK is ba sed in Hull, England and is home to the low power carbon dioxide (CO2) laser operations which had been held separate by Coherent pursuant to commitments made to the European Commission.

RSUK fits into the portfolio of CMR, as CMR invests mainly in European Companies in attractive and growing Industries.

In parallel, CMR announced a joint worldwide sales, service and production agreement between Rofin-Sinar UK and Iradion Lasers Inc. to combine the two companies’ complimentary product lines and to market them globally. Both companies are specialists in CO2 laser sources. The combined product portfolios cover a wide range of laser power levels up to 1kW, using different technologies, enabling most industrial CO2 laser applications to be addressed and for the companies to realize synergies and strengthen their competitiveness.

Customers will benefit from the joint distribution and service centres on three co ntinents by getting a wider choice of laser sources and improved internatio nal technical support. The European Commission’s approval for the acquisition of Rofin-Sinar Technologies Inc. (RSUK's former parent entity) by Coherent in November 2016, was co nditional on the divestment of Rofin-Sinar’s low power CO2 laser manufacturing business in Hull due to competition concerns.

Rofin-Sinar UK develops and manufactures a wide range of sealed CO2 lasers and power supplies for industrial processing and marking applications. The systems are sold and distributed through world-wide sales and service organisations and sub-distributors. Its lasers are employed in a broad spectrum of industries including automotive, aerospace, packaging, electro nics and in a wide variety of applications involving cutting, drilling, welding, scribing and marking.
